About Water Softener Salt Pellets

These water softener salt pellets include a cleansing additive that helps keep your brine tank clean between refills. The formula is designed to reduce mushing and bridging, two of the most common reasons a softener stops making soft water, so you spend less time scooping out the tank.

Why Customers Choose Water Softener Salt Pellets

  • Cleansing Formula: Helps reduce the need for brine tank cleanouts.
  • Resists Mushing and Bridging: Pellets hold their shape so brine keeps forming properly.
  • Fits Standard and HE Units: Suitable for standard and high-efficiency ion-exchange softeners.
  • 40 lb Bag: A full refill for most residential brine tanks.

How It Works

An ion-exchange water softener uses resin beads to trap the calcium and magnesium that make water hard. Salt in the brine tank makes the brine that rinses those minerals away during regeneration, so the resin can keep softening your water. Clean, high-purity salt means less leftover residue in the tank and fewer cleanouts.

Water Softener Salt Pellets Specifications

Type Water softener salt pellets
Formula Cleansing additive
Package 40 lb bag
Use Residential and commercial water softeners

Where It Works Best

High-efficiency softeners, tanks that tend to bridge, and owners who want less maintenance.

Where Not to Use It

  • Check your softener manual for any salt type requirements
  • Do not mix very different salt types in one tank
  • Store bags off the floor in a dry spot

How to Use Water Softener Salt Pellets

  1. Check the brine tank. If the salt level is below the water line, it is time to add more.
  2. Break up any crust or bridge (a hard salt shelf) with a broom handle before refilling.
  3. Pour salt in until the tank is about half to two-thirds full. Keep the level a few inches above the water line.
  4. Avoid mixing very different salt types in the same tank to reduce the chance of mushing.
  5. Check the level monthly. Most households add salt every four to eight weeks, depending on water hardness and use.

How often should I add salt?
Check the brine tank about once a month and keep it at least a quarter to half full. Usage depends on your water hardness and household size.
Can I mix it with another salt?
It is best not to mix salt types. Let the tank run low before switching.
