Why Qik Joe Calcium Chloride Ice Melt Pellets?

Qik Joe is a calcium chloride ice melt that releases heat as it dissolves and keeps working when rock salt slows down.

Qik Joe Calcium Chloride Ice Melt Pellets are made for deep winter cold. Calcium chloride pulls moisture from the air to start forming brine quickly and gives off heat as it dissolves, so it keeps working when plain rock salt slows down.

About Qik Joe Calcium Chloride Ice Melt Pellets

Qik Joe Calcium Chloride Ice Melt Pellets are made for deep winter cold. Calcium chloride pulls moisture from the air to start forming brine quickly and gives off heat as it dissolves, so it keeps working when plain rock salt slows down.

Why Customers Choose Qik Joe Calcium Chloride Ice Melt Pellets

  • Extreme-Cold Performance: Keeps melting at temperatures where rock salt slows down.
  • Heat-Releasing: Gives off heat as it dissolves to speed up melting.
  • Fast Brine: Pulls moisture from the air to start working quickly.
  • Goes Further: A light, even application covers a lot of ground.

How It Works

Calcium chloride is hygroscopic: it attracts moisture, dissolves into a strong brine and releases heat as it does. That brine works down through the ice and breaks its bond with the pavement.

Steps, walks, driveways and entrances in the coldest part of winter, and anywhere fast melting matters.

Where Not to Use It

  • Concrete less than one year old
  • Cracked, spalled or poorly sealed concrete
  • Keep product away from children and store it out of reach

How to Use Qik Joe Calcium Chloride Ice Melt Pellets

  1. Shovel or plow loose snow first so the melter can reach the ice underneath.
  2. Spread a thin, even layer by hand scoop or with a broadcast or drop spreader. More is not better: a light, uniform coat works faster and wastes less.
  3. Give it a few minutes to break the bond between the ice and the pavement, then shovel away the loosened slush.
  4. Before a storm, pre-treat walkways and steps with a light application to help keep ice from bonding.
  5. Sweep up leftover granules once surfaces are dry so they are not tracked indoors.

Questions about this product

Ask a question ›
Calcium chloride vs rock salt: which is better?
Calcium chloride keeps melting at temperatures where rock salt slows down, and it releases heat as it dissolves. Rock salt costs less per pound for milder weather.
Is calcium chloride bad for concrete?
Do not use calcium chloride or any deicer on concrete less than one year old, or on concrete that is cracked, spalled or poorly sealed. On sound, cured concrete, apply a thin, even coat and sweep up leftovers.
Pellets or flakes: which calcium chloride is better?
Both form the same melting brine. Pellets tend to bore down through ice, while flakes spread over a wider area. This product comes as pellets.
Is calcium chloride safe for pets?
Calcium chloride is not sold as a pet-friendly melter. Wipe paws after walks, keep pets from licking treated surfaces, and choose a pet-friendlier ice melt for areas your pets use.
How much should I use?
Follow the application rate on the package. A thin, even layer works faster and wastes less than a heavy coat.
How do I store it?
Keep it sealed in a cool, dry place. Ice melters pull moisture from the air and can clump if left open.
What sizes are available?
Size: 9 lb Jug, 20 lb Bag, 40 lb Pail, 50 lb Bag. The price shown is per 9 lb jug unless you pick another option.
When will it ship?
In-stock orders placed before 2:00 PM Eastern on a business day ship the same day from our Williamstown, New Jersey warehouse. Orders placed after the cut-off, on weekends or on holidays ship the next business day. Tracking is emailed as soon as it leaves. The box above the Add to cart button shows the live countdown and an arrival estimate for your ZIP.
Can I buy by the pallet?
Yes. Pallets ship by LTL freight and the rate depends on your delivery address, so we quote it rather than guess. The product price is the same price everyone pays, whether you buy one pail or a pallet; only the freight is quoted. Request a freight quote and we will come back with a delivered price.
Can I pick up at the warehouse?
Yes, by arrangement at our Williamstown, New Jersey warehouse, Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to noon, Eastern. Contact us first so the warehouse can pull your order.
Can I return it?
Unused, unopened product in its original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Opened bags and pails cannot be returned. Read the full return policy.
