CMA (calcium magnesium acetate) is a chloride-free deicer chemistry used where people want to limit chloride damage. It works by interfering with the way ice bonds to the pavement, so snow and ice release and can be shoveled away. It is widely chosen around pets and plantings.

How to Use Orange Walrus CMA Pet-Friendly Ice Melt

  1. Shovel or plow loose snow first so the melter can reach the ice underneath.
  2. Spread a thin, even layer by hand scoop or with a broadcast or drop spreader. More is not better; a light, uniform coat works faster and wastes less.
  3. Give it a few minutes to break the bond between the ice and the pavement, then shovel away the loosened slush.
  4. Before a storm, pre-treat walkways and steps with a light application to help keep ice from bonding.
  5. Sweep up leftover granules once surfaces are dry so they are not tracked indoors.
  6. Keep the lid tightly closed between uses. Ice melters pull moisture from the air and can clump if left open.
