How to Use Color-Coated Ice Melt Pail
- Shovel or plow loose snow first so the melter can reach the ice underneath.
- Spread a thin, even layer by hand scoop or with a broadcast or drop spreader. More is not better; a light, uniform coat works faster and wastes less.
- Give it a few minutes to break the bond between the ice and the pavement, then shovel away the loosened slush.
- Before a storm, pre-treat walkways and steps with a light application to help keep ice from bonding.
- Sweep up leftover granules once surfaces are dry so they are not tracked indoors.
- Keep the lid tightly closed between uses. Ice melters pull moisture from the air and can clump if left open.
