The chlorides in Ice Slicer draw moisture from ice and snow to make a brine that lowers the freezing point of water. That brine works down through the ice and loosens it from the pavement so you can shovel it away.

Redmond's blend pairs those chlorides with naturally occurring minerals, which is what gives the granules their color.
